But in 2008, a show in Tennessee went horribly wrong and, with 10 States remaining, Joel's American adventures came to an abrupt end. He returned to England, bought a canal boat and soon started creating 'Angry Boater.' 18 years on, approaching 60 and still floating around, Joel was discovered by Channel 4, becoming an instant hit on the award-nominated series, 'Narrow Escapes' which documented Joel's adventures including his narrowboat sea-voyage in the middle of the night. If you are boaty, or boat-curious or if you can’t imagine anything worse, expect a polished evening of comedy and stories unlike anything you’ll experience again. Along with the joys, perils and madness of a life afloat with hypertension, during the two hour show, Joel lifts the lid on several of his celebrity encounters (including chancing upon one of the biggest bands in the world and an awkward towpath encounter with a disgraced Hollywood A-Lister).
