Set in Victorian London, The Threepenny Opera follows the exploits of the criminal Macheath, "Mack the Knife" as he marries Polly Peachum, the daughter of a wealthy racketeer who controls the city's beggars and tries to have Macheath hanged. The play, a biting critique of capitalist society, features Brecht and Weill's distinctive songs sung with live musical accompaniment.
