A night packed with music for the curious listener with presenter and saxophonist Jess Gillam, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and composer, Nico Muhly. Joining them for this special live special dress rehearsal performance OR preview of the show which will be recorded for broadcast on the following day s the BBC Concert Orchestra and their Principal Guest Conductor and Curator Edwin Outwater.

Jess Gillam is a saxophone player with a difference: a fearless musical explorer, and This Classical Life takes the music she loves - and the people who make it - and spreads that love nationwide in an evening of music and conversation. It’s a night for both classical music fans and those at the start of exploring the world of orchestral music.

Jess Gillam has been described by Snake Davis as 'one of the best young saxophonists in the UK'. A woodwind category finalist in the BBC Young Musician 2014, Jess was awarded the prestigious Walter Todd Bursary at the final and has shared top billing with Courtney Pine at a Jazz concert in her home town of Ulverston.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason

Sheku Kanneh-Mason is a Nottingham cellist and winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year 2016. He became a household name in 2018 after performing at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle.
