Opened in 1912, Bristol's Hippodrome Theatre has one of the largest stages outside of London, allowing it to host some of the most lavish touring productions. The theatre has close connections with the Welsh National Opera which frequently appears there. The Hippodrome is located in the centre of the old city, close to the historic harbourside.

Getting there

By car

There are several places to park nearby, including Millennium Square and Bristol Harbourside multi-story car parks (both 5 minutes walk). Please note that Bristol city centre is subject to a Low Emission Zone and some vehicles may incur a charge.

By train

The nearest station is Bristol Temple Meads which is a 20 minute walk from the Hippodrome, or five minutes by taxi.

Eating and Drinking

The theatre is located just two minutes walk from the harbour which is now home to a number of cafes, bars and restaurants, including The Stable which specialises in cider and pizza and The Watershed café bar. Historic King Street is just five minutes walk for a choice of lively pubs, and nearby Corn Street is also home to several restaurants such as San Carlo, Cosy Club and The Ox.

Hotels

The Radisson hotel is located directly opposite the Hippodrome. The upmarket Hotel du Vin is ten minutes walk and nearby budget chains include Premier Inn King Street, Travelodge Anchor Road and Ibis Harbourside.

Accessibility

The Denmark Street entrance is step free and opens 30 minutes before the show starts. There is one step per row once inside the auditorium. Please contact the venue's accessibility line on 0333 009 5399 for further assistance or details of the theatre's wheelchair places.

Further information

The Box Office opens 90 minutes before the start of the performance. Please note that The Hippodrome is now a cashless venue.
