About the show

Jan Vriend was born in The Netherlands and has lived and worked in Gloucestershire UK since 1984. He started his career as an all-rounder: pianist, organist and conductor, covering a broad variety of styles and genres.

Ever questioning the very foundations of music, he collaborated with his late friend and colleague Jos Kunst, whose ‘Making Sense in Music’ was the fruit of long and serious probing into the question of how music communicates.

Perhaps best known for being the co-founder and first conductor of ASKO, which developed into the internationally renowned ASKO Ensemble and later merged into the ASKO|Schoenberg Ensemble, Jan has been a full-time composer since the mid-seventies.

His most recent double album was released on 11 November 2023 in Amsterdam, celebrating his 85th birthday. It contains chamber, orchestral and choral music. Issued by and is available from the label Attacca under ATT 2023167.

Tonight’s performance is a fundraiser for Tetbury Goods Shed and includes a welcoming drink and a small selection of canapes.

Advance tickets £18. On the door on the night they will cost £20.

Doors open at 5pm. Performance starts at 6pm
