Somewhere in a parallel universe, little Alfie’s natural comedic performance skills were recognised by his doting parents, who encouraged and developed his blossoming talent. After several years as a stage school brat, Alfie’s angelic face was launched on stage and screen and the rest is history.

NEW – Supper Club. Why not make your evening extra special and enjoy a three-course supper in our Finnish Carriage, prepared by award-winning chef Andrew Jenkinson, before tonight’s performance?

Meanwhile, in this universe, Alfie Moore was told to stop messing about in class before being ‘encouraged’ into the grinding, grimy world of an apprenticeship in the Sheffield steelworks. When recession hit, he traded steel for copper by joining Humberside Police.

Thirty years of shift-work, initially in the Sheffield steelworks and then as a copper on the beat (where he was punched in the face quite a lot), has left him with ‘a face for radio’. A face not so much ‘lived in’ as inhabited by a settlement of squatters with little regard to property maintenance and repair.

Alfie writes and presents his own hit BBC Radio 4 comedy series ‘It’s a Fair Cop’ – whose eighth series aired in Spring 2024 and is now available on BBC Sounds.

Alfie Moore

Alfie is an original and distinctive comedian with his niche area as a serving police sergeant. He came slightly later to comedy and brings a wealth of insights and comedy moments from his eighteen years on the beat, where a keen sense of humour has been the key to his success and survival! Born and raised on a council estate in Sheffield he was an apprentice in the steelworks before joining the Police. Early on in Alfie's career he finished runner up in a national stand-up competition and was well and truly hooked. He subsequently served a whole new apprenticeship, honing his craft at comedy clubs all over the country. Alfie has an observational comedic style, which lends itself to witty, and sometimes gritty, anecdotes based on everyday modern policing. 'He's a very funny man' (Rhod Gilbert) 'Genuinely brilliantly funny' (David Mitchell) 'Very funny... a large dash of gallows police humour' (The Daily Telegraph) 'He walks the comedy beat with confidence' (Metro) 'Gloriously, life-enhancingly funny' (The Scotsman) 'His is a higher form of wit. delivered with lashings of good spirits and an effective slither of self-deprecation' (Chortle) 'Lots of well-crafted jokes and a large dash of gallows police humour' (The Sunday Telegraph).
