Join Southampton Concert Orchestra in an evening of reflection, beauty, and timeless English music. Starting with the rarely performed A Gloucestershire Rhapsody by Ivor Gurney, whose music captures both the pastoral charm and the poignant yearning of a soul shaped by war and poetry. Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations — a deeply personal masterpiece that transforms portraits of the composer’s friends into one of the most enduring orchestral works ever written. Finally, the concert soars to radiant heights with Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, a luminous meditation on nature and transcendence, where the solo violin rises skyward in song, embodying pure freedom and serenity.

Paul Ingram
Conductor and Music Director. Paul Ingram studied at the Universities of Southampton and Leicester, reading Music and Management respectively.
He began conducting in 1995, working with the orchestras of
Southampton University.
In 1997, Paul founded the Southampton University
Sinfonietta and remained Music Director until 2004.
In 1999, he reached the final of the British Reserve Insurance
Conducting Competition and has been Music Director of Southampton Concert Orchestra since 2001.
Paul was Principal Conductor of Per Piacere from 2007 to 2017 and
has recently been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the
professional chamber orchestra, Nova Foresta Classical Players.
