Homegrown Bluegrass

There has been an interest in bluegrass and bluegrass related music in the Leeds, Bradford and surrounding areas for many years. There were earlier bands and duos , but the first main Bluegrass Band in the area was 'The Chevin Ramblers' and obviously, with a name like that, was formed in the Otley Folk Club in around 1970 and was together for around 13 years.

As well as playing at many venues in the Yorkshire area and further afield, including many of the earliest bluegrass events, one of it's main claims to fame was forming the Leeds Bluegrass Club which ran for over 33 years. Although the club is no longer running, two of the original Chevin Ramblers are still playing the music they love and are among the players in the Homegrown Bluegrass Event

We bring together a number of bands playing their own kind of Bluegrass/Americana music and you will note that some of the number of musicians in the lists here double up in bands as many get together in informal picking sessions.
