Percussion D'abobo

Percussion d’Abobo is a collective of young drummers from the Abobo district of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, brought together by master percussionist Sidiki Dembélé. The group emerged from a local training programme created by Sidiki to share traditional rhythms with a new generation and build opportunities through music. The ensemble performs powerful, high-energy pieces rooted in Mandeng musical traditions, including djembe, dunun, and balafon.

Sidiki Dembele

A master Griot percussionist who is acclaimed throughout West Africa and Europe. He is originally from the Ivory Coast where he worked extensively with ballet and touring companies. He was also the featured lead percussionist and Djembefola in the international African touring circus Afrika!Afrika! He is currently based in England, and is regarded as one of the strongest percussion soloists in the UK.
