About the show

Classically trained and since rewilded, Wales-rooted singer-cellist Ailsa Mair creates elemental tapestries from her strings, voice and loop pedal - experimental folk offerings on the spectrum of grief and joy, woven with nature, magic and threads of Welsh language.

Ailsa shares original songs and live improvisations from the heart, driven by a deep love of the land, sea and stars around her - and all their stories. She will play songs from her 2025 EP Mesolithic Mermaid, ongoing musical divination project Fool's Journey as well as material old and new from 15 years of completely unique songwriting. Several of her songs have been played on BBC Introducing, where Adam Walton described her music as ‘Hypnotic, Elemental and Brilliant’ (Fool, 2024), and Bethan Elfyn as ‘Absolutely Gorgeous’ (True North, 2025).

In other guises, Ailsa has worked several times with the Royal Shakespeare Company, composed/performed for an abundance of other theatre, aerial circus, storytelling and dance shows, was one half of the bilingual viola da gamba and voice duo Tinc y Tannau with Sianed Jones, and has been session musician for many highly-regarded artists including Cynefin, Georgia Ruth, Gwilym Bowen Rhys and Cerys Hafana.
