Prepare to be deeply moved, uplifted, and reminded of the extraordinary power of human connection right here in Preston. Preston Musical Comedy Society (PMCS), a cherished part of Lancashire’s cultural fabric, is proud to present the North West Amateur Premiere of the internationally celebrated, award-winning musical, Come From Away.
This is more than just a show; it’s a vibrant celebration of community spirit born from crisis. Set against the backdrop of the September 11th attacks, Come From Away tells the remarkable real-life story of Gander, Newfoundland. When US airspace closed, 38 planes carrying over 7,000 stranded passengers landed unexpectedly in this small Canadian town. What unfolded was nothing short of extraordinary: the people of Gander opened their homes, shared their food, and offered unconditional kindness, forging profound friendships with strangers from around the globe.
Witness the humour in culture clashes, the tears of shared grief and relief, and the overwhelming compassion as neighbours became family overnight. Come From Away resonates powerfully today, serving as a timely and emotional reminder of our shared humanity and the incredible strength found when a community opens its heart. Feel the infectious energy of its folk-rock score and be swept away by a story that proves kindness can truly change the world.
When the world stopped, their kindness took flight.
Preston Musical Comedy Society
Preston Musical Comedy Society was formed in 1953 performing it’s first production, The Desert Song, at The Royal Hippodrome in 1954. The society has called many Theatres in Preston home since that first production. These have included The Gaumont Theatre, The Empire and The Charter Theatre which we still use along with the Playhouse. Over the years the Society has helped many of it’s members on their way to a successful career in showbiz – Alfie Boe, John Thomson, Tupele Dorgu, Jessica Pieterson (nee Taylor), Sophie McDonnell and Julie Atherton to name just a few. Preston Musical Comedy Society continues to be one of the most highly regarded companies in the North West. In recent years we have won more NODA awards than any other group in our region and we continue to present top quality musicals and pantomimes for the people of Preston.…
