When poet Jem Poster and musicologist Stephen Ferron first ran a course on the words and music of Bob Dylan at the University of Cambridge in 2017 it was considered sufficiently shocking to attract the attention of the national press, despite Dylan having won the Nobel Prize in Literature the year before.
The 1960s saw a remarkable flowering of songwriting talent, and Dylan was pre-eminent among the young singer-songwriters who rose to prominence during that decade. This informal and accessible discussion will provide insights into Dylan's prolific talent, with Jem exploring the lyrics and Stephen, an experienced session guitarist, demonstrating the music that accompanies and complements them.
