Brickwork Lizards are Oxford's favourite cinematic Arabic jazz ensemble, and they're back at the Bully for the first time in 9 years.
Their most recent album 'Haneen' was described as ?a joyful bound across time, soaking up lines, melodies, riffs and the atmosphere of a shellac scratchy tea dance one minute, a lavishly decorated, carpeted seraglio the next."
Legends like Don Letts and Tom Robinson. have championed the Lizards' unique combination of pre-war, gin-joint jazz and traditional Middle Eastern music.
Support this evening comes from One Trick Donkey, who play and sing traditional folk music from the Balkans. Coming from near and far and based in Oxford, the Donkeys are drawn together by an insatiable appetite for the toe-tapping and sway-inducing folk music from Eastern Europe. With their own arrangements of traditional folk melodies, they offer up an enchanting musical landscape.
The Brickwork Lizards
An Oxford 8 piece, recalling the music of the 30s and 40s, featuring oud, cello, guitars, banjo, keys, trumpet and percussion under the silky Arabic vocals of Tarik Bashir and the wise words of MC Tomohawk.
