Jack Goldstein: Hellfire Bumper Sticker Cowpunching Jewboy
A hyper-country odyssey through the backwoods of love, identity, grief and resilience in the face of a cock-eyed burning world; a fever dream in a universe where Britney Spears renders a fully fledged country and western album around the time she shaves her head; the pinpointed moment that the cosmic heartache begins to envenom our world.
The inimitable Jack Goldstein launches his album Hellfire Bumper Sticker Cowpunching Jewboy in Oxford with a special show at The Bullingdon. Support from art-rock duo Richard Lewis and psychedelic geek new-wave inventor Moogieman.
This show is all-ages; under-14s must be accompanied by an adult. The venue is accessible for wheelchair users.
Moogieman
Oxford artist Moogieman plays psychedelic geek new wave with his backing band, The Masochists, consisting of Vincent Lynch on bass, Claire LeMaster on synths, Stefano Maio on drum machines/percussion and Clare Heaviside on saxophone. The band released a 10 inch vinyl single, Ghost Driver, in November and are planning an album for the summer that builds on their new, more electronic, synth-based sound. The Moogieman project was started by Shan Sriharan, based on a rarely used childhood nickname, a still unfulfilled desire to play Moog synthesisers, and an attempt to meld the influence of miserable 80s post-punk bands and vibrant 60s psychedelia with obscure lyrical themes such as film photography and rare psychological conditions. The Masochists joined one by one to reinforce and develop the sound of the band, settling on the current five-piece lineup for the debut album Girls And Film in 2017. Oxford’s Nightshift magazine did a cover feature on the band in December 2018 and has included Moogieman songs in its top tracks of the last three years. Moogieman And The Masochists are signed to Oxfordshire/Berkshire label All Will Be Well Records and have played at nearby festivals such as Common People, Oddball, Tandem, the Oxford Punt and Cowley Road Carnival. Sounds like: Magnetic Fields, The Modern Lovers, The Human League, Olivia Tremor Control, early Pink Floyd.
