Afreine

Afreine dropped into the music scene in a town known for its growing talent - showing promise and providing a breath of fresh air at open mics and local events. Making a name for herself as a budding new singer from a long-term gospel background, Afreine has made a mark as a being a versatile and underestimated singer-songwriter. Afreine has consistently relied on music throughout her life because it hasn’t always been plain sailing. She moved to Northampton with her family to escape from domestic violence and then into a religious organization that took her youth and teenage years traveling the country and Europe working and performing gospel music. Afreine became a mother at 20 and fought to prove many people wrong, dealing with post-natal depression while gaining a university degree and all the while, writing endless songs in her tiny flat. Now, Afreine writes deeply from the experience of her childhood, heartbreak, and the natural drama that comes from a small-town music scene. She is a voice representing the queer, BAME, and single parent community and is known for a soulful, yet delicate voice.
