The Annual Free Convention returns to The Cullercoats Crescent Club, North Shields, celebrating 39 years of incredible live music dedicated to Free, Bad Company, and Back Street Crawler.

Friday night features three outstanding bands paying tribute to these legendary groups.

The Heartbreaker Collective is a young and exceptionally talented band that comes together exclusively for this event. Performing a Free set on both nights, they have received standing ovations every year, with many saying they capture the raw energy of a young Free.

Kossoff… The Band Plays On features Terry Slesser, who fronted Back Street Crawler alongside Paul Kossoff in the mid-'70s. He is joined by John Buckton, widely regarded as one of the finest interpreters of Kossoff’s guitar style. Their set will honour Paul Kossoff’s best-known work with Free and Back Street Crawler.

The Stealer will bring the best of Bad Company to the stage, delivering a high-energy set of classic hits.

Three and a half hours of live music, all in support of Newcastle Hospital Trust, which received over £6,000 last year. Don’t miss out!

The principle aim of the Annual Free Convention is to build up a membership of fans who may have an interest in continued comradeship inbetween the annual events that take place to share our love for that great band. The Annual Free Convention is an annual event that hosts tribute bands performing music relating to the individuals of 'Free' i.e. Paul Rodgers, Andy Fraser, Simon Kirke and Paul Kossoff (RIP), as well as the related bands like 'Bad Company' 'Sharks' 'Back Street Crawler' etc...

Kossoff...The Band Plays On

Forty years on since Paul Kossoff, one of Britain’s finest guitarists, tragically passed away at the tender age of 25 in 1976. Singer Terry Slesser, the voice of Kossoff's critically acclaimed post-Free band Back Street Crawler, and a close friend of Koss, keeps the memory of one of the greatest British Blues guitarist and his music alive. Sless has chosen the guitarist John Buckton, of whom Simon Kirke said "If Free were to reform John would be my first choice as guitarist", to play a series of special dates reviving for the first time since the 70s the catalogue of Back Street Crawler songs as well as favourite Free numbers. Also included in the lineup is drummer Clive Edwards (UFO, Wild Horses, Pat Travers) and highly respected keyboard player Mark Taylor (Elton John, Simple Minds, The Alarm).
