Journeying with the Selkies? Stones
A movement and voice workshop exploring our connection to folklore and the natural world.

Join harpist-singer Georgie Buchanan and dance artist Sophie Hutchinson for a gentle, immersive workshop inspired by Selkie folklore and the textures of the shoreline.

In Irish, Scottish and Nordic mythology Selkies have the power to shapeshift between human and seal form, they dance between the wild of the ocean and the safety of the shore, symbolising the balance between our inner and outer worlds.

Through guided movement and voice, live harp and song, and the tactile presence of stones, we?ll explore the themes of transformation, belonging, and return.

Participants will be invited to move, sing, rest, and listen - finding their own connection to the body?s tides and the grounding weight of the earth.

No dance or music experience is needed; all are welcome.

About Sophie - Sophie Hutchinson is a dance artist and movement facilitator based in the West of Ireland. Working across live performance, film, and community dance rituals, her practice is rooted in the body as a sensing instrument?tuning into land, materials, memory, and relationship. Trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, with continuous training in somatic and inclusive movement practices, she is committed to creating spaces where movement becomes a meeting point for self, others, and the unspoken.

?I don't know that I've ever felt so free. The part of me that holds me back, that tells me these ways of being free are for other people but not for me, in the simplicity and lightness of your invitation - was able to step aside. I feel a bit tearful when I think about it. It was really special. Thank you so much?.
