Teleost

Teleost is a doom duo based in Glasgow. Formed by Catherine Redfern and Leo Hancill in 2021, the band came about as a result of experimentation with tunings and pedals through the pandemic to create some of the heaviest tones possible while maintaining the flexibility and simplicity of a two-piece. Eschewing the usual two-piece arrangement of a standard-tuned guitar running through octave/pitch shifting effects, Teleost takes a less traditional approach: taking a baritone guitar and adding a bass string one octave below the route note, and splitting the signal into 3 amps - bass, rhythm, and lead - using an array of homemade pedals. The end result is a thunderous low-end without compromising high end snarl, and a clear guitar tone that is not muddied and confused by pitch-shifter effects. With simple yet pummeling drums and distant ethereal vocal melodies, Teleost produces riffs that are simple yet melodic, slow yet purposeful, and crushingly heavy without aggression, drawing inspiration from such bands as Slomatics, Floor, Nadja and Bongripper.
