After a triumphant year since they played what was only their second ever gig at The Bear in March last year, Wonder 45 return with their own brand of authentic soul that straddles the line between traditional and contemporary.

Since they played last they have released their debut album “Wonderland” - an absolute classic of rich, analogue production combined with powerful, soulful performances and heartfelt songwriting which is definitely worth checking out.

The band was formed as an instrumental recording project by producer and writer Holley Gray, collaborating with guitarist Ross Ewart, drummer Chris Nickolls, and keys player Steve Pringle but the band came into their own when they linked up with singer-songwriters Jess Greenfield and Gavin Conder, adding top-line vocal melodies which bring the songs to life.

Their debut single, "Wonderland" earned the band accolades within the underground soul scene and a string of superb singles followed receiving airplay worldwide.

Following in the footsteps of contemporary soul greats like Sharon Jones, Black Pumas, and Alabama Shakes, as well as legends Al Green and Aretha Franklin, their songs are sincere affairs of the heart, crafted with tremendous loving care and the utmost attention to detail but packing a huge emotional punch.

Wonder 45

Between them Wonder 45 have stood on headline stages from Glastonbury’s Pyramid, Reading, Isle of Wight, to Fuji Rock in Japan, with the likes of Noel Gallagher, Michael Kiwanuka and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man. This unrivalled ensemble of London based musicians combine arena-ready song writing with meticulous and soulful performances. They received Radio 2 playlist placement for the first single ‘Cry’, (described by Zoe Ball as “Beautiful!”) from their debut album, ‘Wonderland’, which was released in May. The follow-up track, ‘Make It Happen’ was premiered on 6 Music by Craig Charles, who touted Wonder 45 as “One To Watch” in 2024, and have since been playlisted as far afield as Seattle’s KEXP. Originally formed as an instrumental recording project by producer / writer Holley Gray, the band were joined by Jess Greenfield and Gavin Conder “Two voices pitched in perfect harmony to create blue-eyed soul and sophisticated, grown-up pop.” (Telegraph Magazine), linking up with Wonder 45’s original instrumental section formed of Holley Gray, Ross Ewart, Chris Nickolls and Steve Pringle. This collaboration lead Blues Matters to declare the band a “slick and stylish group oozing with class”. Wonder 45 are committed to writing and recording authentic soul music from their suburban London base.
