Ballake Sissoko
Ballake Sissoku hails from Mali and is a noted player of the Kora, a 21 string harp-like instrument. He is the son of musician Djelimady Sissoko. Whilst his music is steeped in ancient West African traditions, this modest and soft-spoken man is also an innovator and musical adventurer. He earned his reputation by performing solo, with Toumani Diabate, Taj Mahal, Ludovico Einaudi and, more recently, in an award-winning collaboration with French cellist Vincent Segal.
