Side eYe hosts an immersive evening in Soomaaliya, inspired by and in collaboration with New York-based chef, writer and artist Ifrah F. Ahmed’s debut cookbook of the same name. Ahmed is a long-standing contributor to The New York Times, with work also featured in The Cut, Vogue and The Washington Post.


Carefully crafted is a set-menu of audio recordings, readings by actors, poetry and music, ending with a moderated conversation between Ahmed and culture writer Haaniyah Awale Angus. Find yourself immersed in an evening of transborder tales of labour, migration, loss and family. Savour the joy of meals shared, the grief of traditions robbed, and the longing for the meals yet to come. Storytelling drawing from where they are told through a phone, balanced under a chin and over a stove. Through a soundscape that flattens time, join us as we bridge intergenerational experiences of belonging over a shared pot of shaah.
