Osaka-born, New York-trained soul singer Nao Yoshioka is a one-of-a-kind presence in Japan and the U.S. “Outlier/Misfit” might be a more accurate description because her career was predicated on making us feel it. Having experienced bullying, a parent’s divorce, depression, and becoming a high school dropout, all in her teenage years, Nao’s career has been about emotions from the very beginning to this day. She continued to dive deep into the community. As a result, she caught the attention of key figures such as Eric Roberson and Gordon Chambers, became the first Japanese female singer to participate in the Capital Jazz Series, and performed with Jon Batiste at Sirius XM. The emotions she has experienced and will experience do not stop with her. The music she plays and the words she spins will touch and resonate with many people who share the same feelings.
