Mixed at midnight on Friday the 13th, the last classical Jamaican dub mixer, Scientist, unleashed a dark concoction of thundering basslines, eerie piano parts, and ghostly percussion into the world – one of dub’s seminal records Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires.
After that, the world of reggae and dub was changed, setting the blueprint for bass music with his dark, hypnagogic aesthetic and bass-driven minimalism.
This Halloween season, join us as Scientist presents a live performance of tracks from this classic record alongside other pivotal dub gems alongside special guests and friends.
AKA Hopetown Overton Brown began his musical career as a protege of King Tubby, and by seventeen was one of the most sought after sound engineers in Jamaica. The name is now synonymous with the evolution of Jamaican dub/reggae music.
