Donald Byrd's Places and Spaces: 50th Anniversary

Widely regarded as one of the finest hard bop trumpeters, Donald Byrd was celebrated for his sharp, expressive lines and signature crackling tone. In the 1970s, he became a trailblazer in the jazz/RnB crossover scene.

His 1975 release Places and Spaces stands as a definitive jazz-funk masterpiece, showcasing Byrd's exceptional artistry and later becoming a treasure trove of samples for hip-hop producers.

This August, some of London's top jazz talent will come together to perform the album in full, along with a selection of other Donald Byrd favourites.
