Formed in 2018 by percussionist and soul DJ Andy Davies, Diggin’ For Diamonds was created from a love of uncovering forgotten gems, rare ’70s soul, funk and disco records that never quite got the spotlight they deserved. The band breathe new life into these hidden classics, alongside delivering powerful original material inspired by the golden era of soul. Influenced by legendary artists including Leroy Hutson, The Salsoul Orchestra, Alice Clark, Loleatta Holloway, Gwen McCrae, and a wealth of independent US soul and funk artists whose music was originally released on small local labels, Diggin’ For Diamonds champion the sound of the underground. Many of the songs in their set had never even seen an official release until recent years, making each performance a true discovery session for soul lovers. Made up of some of East Anglia’s finest musicians, the band have quickly built a loyal following and are now recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting new soul outfits. Their reputation has seen them perform at one of Britain’s top Soul Weekenders, as well as renowned venues and festivals including PizzaExpress Live (Soho, London) and Peggy’s Skylight (Nottingham). Collectively, the band members have shared stages with an impressive list of artists including Myles Sanko, The Brass Funkeys, Kathy Kosins, Resolution 88, Joanna Eden, Paul Young’s Q-Tips, Joe Bataan, Speedometer, Dennis Taylor and many more, bringing serious pedigree and musicianship to every show. Expect soaring vocals, tight grooves, rich horn lines and irresistible rhythms - a night for true soul connoisseurs and dancers alike.
