Swedish pop enigma, Mariam Wallentin (one half of husband/wife duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums), has just released her solo debut on acclaimed label, Moshi Moshi under the name, Mariam The Believer. Blood Donation is characterised by its tribal rhythms, jazz inflections, and a possessed voice that has the ability to channel Fever Ray, Kate Bush and Nina Simone. It should be noted that when Wallentin sings, it’s as if every muscle, every fibre of her being is taking part in creating those sounds.
