Indonesian Chamber Music

Experience the intimacy and intensity of Tembang Sunda, the sung poetry of West Java at Jamboree, performed by female Sundanese vocalist Hendrawati Ashworth. The evening also includes the bold, interlocking instrumental music of Balinese Gendér Wayang!

Tembang Sunda consists of a vocalist accompanied by two kacapi (zithers) and a suling (bamboo flute) performed here by Matt Ashworth, Barley Norton and Simon Cook. In contrast, UK based ensemble Segara Madu (‘Sea of Honey’), directed by Dr Nick Gray, showcases music used for Balinese shadow puppet theatre from the village of Sukawati.
