After recent London shows celebrating Tito Puente's centenary (2023) and the 60th anniversary of New York Latin music label Fania Records (2024), AGMP honour another Latin music legend this autumn with a special show celebrating the 100th anniversary of Cuban-born singer, salsa legend, and Latin American icon "La Reina" Celia Cruz.
The top UK mambo/salsa ensemble, Orchestra Mambo International, will be playing the music of Celia Cruz, from 1960s classics to her salsa anthems of the 1970s, and some of her later catalogue from the 1990s. They have invited three of London's finest salsa and Cuban music vocalists to join them onstage. They are Juanita Euka (London Afrobeat Collective), Yuri Moreno (Sarabanda) and Nana Clara Aldrin Quaye (Timba Britanica), three top singers well known within the London/UK salsa and Cuban music scene.
Orchestra Mambo International open the night, playing salsa/mambo classics alongside their original music, including their singles, and previewing new music from their forthcoming debut album.
