Ubuntu Night "Remembering Martin Hummell"
A passionate champion of jazz in all its forms, Martin’s influence reached far and wide, from nurturing rising stars such as Camilla George and Mark Kavuma, to giving seasoned greats the platform they deserved. His unwavering commitment to musical excellence and inclusivity helped make Ubuntu Music one of the UK’s most respected jazz labels, with a roster that has included Darius Brubeck, Elaine Delmar, Andrew McCormack and many more.
Martin’s friends, trumpeter Quentin Collins and vocalist Noemi Nuti, have gathered together a stellar line-up of artists wanting to pay tribute to Martin’s vision, generosity and spirit.
Noemi Nuti
Vocalist Noemi Nuti explores the potential of song form as a canvas for storytelling through lyrics’ writing, improvisation and communication within the band in a contemporary jazz and Brazilian music frame. Inspired by the writing of Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and sounds of Brazilian artists such as Djavan, Milton Nascimento and Joyce, she also captures a warm yet joyful, acoustic sound where the instruments blend and communicate with one another allowing the various elements of the writing and mood of each song to naturally arise
