About the show

Alan Barnes has been recognized as a virtuosic sax/clarinet player, composer, arranger and bandleader for over 40 years. The recipient of more than 30 British Jazz Awards, he has twice been named BBC Jazz Musician of the Year and includes work in the UK, Europe and the US with the likes of Michel Legrand, Jamie Cullum & Van Morrison. Tonight, featuring James Davison-trumpet, Robin Aspland-piano, Andrew Cleyndert-bass and Steve Brown-drums Alan brings his tribute to the brilliant US saxophonist Art Pepper to the Club. Over to Alan: “I put together this all-star band to celebrate the centenary of Art Pepper’s birth. Art’s playing was so…virtuosic and…beautiful…for me, that was how the alto sax should be played!”. Join Alan and the band as they play Art’s original, swinging, tunes alongside classic jazz standards plus some of Alan’s own, terrific compositions. Not to be missed! “His stylistic range is quite phenomenal” Masters Of The Jazz Saxophone; “Barnes plays…with so much passion and energy” Guardian
