Sababa 5

The music of Sababa 5 centres around mediterranean rhythms and melodies, together with sounds from the world of rock and psychedelic funk, creating a real mix of east and west. The band cites influences that range from wrecking crew recordings from the ’60s, to analog iddle Eastern music from the ’70s. The sound of the band is constantly revolving around different genres and rhythms, yet at its core Sababa 5 will always be a groove-centric band. The main sources of inspiration for the band are the nostalgic “beat groups” from Israel that played innovative combinations of psychedelic rock mixed with Mediterranean Arab music during the 60’s and 70's.

DJ Kobayashi, musical styles varies from chill-out/future dub/dub-step and broken beats, to Gypsy/Balkan/Swing/Rock & Roll music. His influences as a DJ started from a very young age following his dad (Reuven Erez). He then knew what he was meant to do and started forming his collection and style. Today he regularly plays all over London and is a resident DJ at Cafe 1001 playing broken beats and electronica music.
