Afriquoi bring their irresistible fusion of African music and live electronics to Llangollen Fringe for a night of unstoppable energy. Formed in London’s cultural melting pot, this five-piece blends Congolese guitar, Gambian kora, and Mandinka percussion with house, garage, soul, jungle and more—creating dancefloor-ready music that defies boundaries. Their explosive shows have lit up Glastonbury, WOMAD, Boomtown, and even the 2012 Olympics, with tracks like the underground afro house anthem “Kudaushe” earning them a devoted following across genres.
Supporting are Cardiff’s Afro Cluster—genre-defying trailblazers known for mixing West African funk and Afrobeat with hip-hop, jazz, and powerful lyricism. With appearances at Green Man, Wilderness and Glastonbury, and support slots for Gilles Peterson and Ibibio Sound Machine, Afrocluster deliver infectious grooves with a message.
Expect masterful musicianship, global rhythms, and pure movement all night. One of the most exciting live double bills in Wales this summer.
Afriquoi
Featuring a diverse array of hyper-talented musicians from Congo, Gambia, Bostswana and the UK, Afriquoi combine live instruments, electronics and vocal effects to create live African dance music. Drawing on fresh UK sounds (house, UK funky, dubstep, glitch) alongside traditional African melody and harmony, and a healthy smattering of ragga dancehall vocals, Afriquoi create an atmosphere and a sound world that is all their own. Afriquoi fuse live marimba, African guitar, djembe, African vocals, dancehall MCing and crisp, heavy beats, blending dancehall, soca, chimurenga, soukous, house, dubstep and electro in a powerful, uplifting, dance-friendly blend.
