A master of the kora and part of one of West Africa’s most respected musical dynasties, Jali Bakary Konteh brings the deep-rooted tradition of Gambian griots to Llangollen Fringe. Grandson of Alhaji Bai Konte and son of Dembo Konte—pioneers of kora on the global stage—Jali Bakary blends ancestral knowledge with bold innovation, creating music that’s as timeless as it is contemporary. Whether solo or with his band, his mesmerising technique and soulful artistry have wowed audiences at WOMAD, Roskilde, and the Barbican. His acclaimed debut Konteh Kunda marked him as a major voice in modern griot music, with more on the way.
Support comes from Panedeni (Duo)—a cross-cultural folk project led by Yasmine Latkowski. Blending Middle Eastern, Welsh, and English folk traditions, Panedeni create intimate, multilingual music rooted in connection and cultural dialogue. Their duo set offers a stripped-back but powerful journey through heritage, story, and song.
An evening of luminous strings, global voices, and rich tradition in the stunning setting of St. Collen’s Church.
