Thrum
Thrum were formed in Lanarkshire in 1992 by vocalist Monica Queen and guitarist Johnny Smillie. Both musicians shared a love of Neil Young & Crazy Horse and Patsy Cline, influences that provided a bedrock for the sound of Thrum. Queen's voice - soulful, wounded, fearless - remains one of the most distinctive in Scottish music, capable of shifting from intimate hush to soaring gospel-tinged fire. Smillie, her long-time collaborator, shapes the band's sonic backbone with his signature guitar work and production: sharp-edged, tender, and meticulously crafted.
The band split up in 1995 with Monica going to forge a solo careeer before announcing the band had reformed in 2011.
