Richard Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel einmal anders

Carl Nielsen: Serenata in Vano

Errollyn Wallen: Nnenna

Beethoven: Septet in E flat, Op 20

Beethoven’s Septet for winds and strings brings our season to a glorious climax. For obvious reasons a performance of this wonderful piece, which inspired Schubert to compose his Octet and was Beethoven’s most popular work in his lifetime, is very much a special event and not to be missed. Chamber Music Box, a London-based collective of leading international instrumentalists, begin with Strauss’s rumbustious tone poem Till Eulenspiegel in an arrangement for quintet. British-Belizean composer Errollyn Wallen was the first black female composer to be performed at the BBC Proms. Her septet Nnenna quotes Sweet Mother!, a popular Nigerian highlife song.
