Appearing:
Kathryn Tickell & The Darkening
The Darkening’ is the Northumbrian name for twilight, but this band’s music blazes fiercely. Their inspiration comes from the wild, dramatic, weather-bitten countryside along Hadrian’s Wall, which seems so quintessentially Northumbrian…and yet, almost 2000 years ago that same landscape was inhabited by people from around the world, worshipping different gods and following different customs. Featuring Kathryn Tickell – Northumbrian smallpipes, fiddle, voice, Cormac Byrne – percussion, Joe Truswell – drums, Kate Young – fiddle, voice, Amy Thatcher – accordion, synths, voice, clog dancing, Kieran Szifris – octave mandolin, musicians from Northumberland, Scotland, Ireland and England invoke the dark, powerful, sounds of Ancient Northumbria and broadcast them to the modern world.

The Longest Johns
The Longest Johns is a acapella folk music band, born out of a mutual love of traditional folk songs and shanties. They rock maritime songs alongside the more unusual and less traditional folk tunes, whilst also composing and recordind their own music. All with a hearty cheer and a row-ho-ho!

Sheelanagig
Having caused dancefloor mayhem from the Scottish Islands to the South of Italy, Sheelanagig are probably the most fun you can have with a fiddle, flute, guitar, double-bass and drums. They are as physically relentless on stage as their music is – playing a unique and energetic blend of Folk, Jazz and World Music. Festival favourites at Glastonbury and Green Man their live show encompasses street theatre, elements of storytelling and acrobatics, and is sure to provoke a reaction – frenzied dancing and stage invasions are hazards on a really good night. They are a truly spellbinding band to see live.

Penguin Cafe
Penguin Cafe was founded by Arthur Jeffes in 2009 as both a continuation of and homage to his father Simon Jeffes' original avant-pop band Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Distinct from the original ensemble, Penguin Cafe features no former members of PCO, but they perform some of their compositions, and play a similarly uncategorizable blend of folk, jazz, pop, and chamber music influences, occasionally using unconventional instrumentation. Penguin Cafe's music has infiltrated daily life; from films such as Napoleon Dynamite to countless theme tunes, they've also played festivals from Bestival and The Big Chill to a sold out Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms. Their sound is at once familiar and new, combining acoustic power and a beguiling, feisty charm.
