"A Way of Understanding the World"
Join singer-songwriter Jamie Doe, AKA The Magic Lantern, as he unpicks the songwriting process, exploring the limitless depth of the human experience.
This three-hour workshop, for experienced and new songwriters alike, is a chance to practically explore a range of creative tools for starting, developing and finishing songs, as well as to consider the social function of songwriting.
Jamie Doe is a British/Australian musician, teacher and workshop leader based in London.
An underground star of London’s diverse music scene he is best known under the moniker The Magic Lantern, with which he has self-released five albums.
Jamie is also an experienced teacher, musical facilitator and workshop leader. He teaches undergraduate musicians in London as a Professor in the Electronic & Produced Music Department at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and as a module leader on the Songwriting Programme at the Institute of Contemporary Musical Performance.
He regularly delivers workshops on songwriting and creative practice, leading an annual project at Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden, in addition to leading workshops at festivals around the world, most recently at the Beyond Vocals Festival in Slovenia.
The Magic Lantern
The Magic Lantern is the musical moniker of Jamie Doe, an artist dedicated to remedying the anxiety and fear present in everyone. Born in Australia before moving to the UK at 12, he is a part of a thriving scene of contemporary musicians living in London who sit across and between genres from folk to jazz, to go about things their own way.
