Celebrating the music of Dave Brubeck and Charles Mingus, The BruMing Band has won admiration for their sold-out shows.
The work of these two very different, but equally brilliant jazz composers moved Jazz beyond Bebop, and much of the music in the band’s programme comes from two albums that did just that; Mingus’s Ah Um and Brubeck’s Time Out, both released in 1959. Since its creation, The BruMing Band has been wowing audiences with its combination of musicianship, virtuosity, interplay and humour. This is definitely a show not to be missed.
The Band
Featuring the amazing virtuoso David Gordon on piano. David is an incredibly inventive musician who draws on a hugely diverse musical background, which ranges from playing harpsichord with the London Concertante to piano with such jazz luminaries as Chris Garrick, Jacqui Dankworth, and Tango with Zum and the London Tango Quintet, among many others.
On saxes is Bristol-based Jake McMurchie. Jake has been an influential member of the thriving South West jazz scene for nearly three decades. His distinctive sound, imagination and melodic invention have made him a key member of many innovative and exciting bands, notably Get The Blessing, Michelson Morley, Portishead and Massive Attack, among many others.
Mingus’s huge shoes are filled by bassist extraordinary and raconteur, Sandy Burnett. Sandy has worked as a musical director at the RSC National Theatre and spent over a decade as one of BBC Radio 3’s core presenters.
