Braw Gigs and Fuzz Bat have teamed up again for a very special show in the beautiful surroundings of St Vincent?s Chapel in the New Town and we?re very pleased to welcome the young and multi talented, Texan guitar sensation, Hayden Pedigo. A must for fans of John Fahey, Papa M, Loren Connors and Jim O?Rourke.
Hayden Pedigo has lived many lives, having been homeschooled in Amarillo, Texas by his truck-stop preacher father, run for Amarillo City Council in 2019, aged 25?as documented by Jasmine Stodel?s SXSW-premiering, PBS-acquired film Kid Candidate?and struck up pen-friendships and collaborative partnerships with the likes of Terry Allen, Charles Hayward (This Heat), Werner ?Zappi? Diermaier (Faust), and Tim Heidecker. A move south from Amarillo to Lubbock in 2020 put a spark to the powder keg of his creativity. ?It?s even more flat, desolate, windy and dirty ? like being on Mars,? Pedigo observes. ?It?s pushed me to create more because there?s not really much to distract.?
With a new LP incoming, here?s a rare chance to catch one of Texas? most talented guitarists in a really special setting at St Vincent?s along with some excellent local support from Edinburgh based experimental folk hero, Bell Lungs, and the bard of Dunbar, Cod O?Donnell. It?s going to be a very special evening - plus it?s BYOB!
Hayden Pedigo
Hayden Pedigo is an acoustic guitarist and soundscape composer hailing from Amarillo, Texas. The son of a truck stop preacher, Hayden spent his teen years woodshedding the American primitive guitar picking styles of John Fahey combined with experimental sound manipulation. By his early 20’s Hayden had already collaborated with luminaries such as Charles Hayward of This Heat, Fred Frith, Werner “Zappi” Diermaier of Faust, and Terry Allen. Hayden’s sound explorations are defined by his love of the vast Texas Panhandle landscapes and the ambient inspirations that world provides. Beyond music, Hayden had a much-publicized 2019 run for Amarillo city council after a satirical campaign video went viral and Hayden’s political aspirations became serious. A new documentary Kid Candidate, which recently premiered at SXSW, shows Hayden’s unlikely run for office.
