DEVIZES ARTS FESTIVAL 2025
British jazz saxophonist Julian Costello is a superbly gifted musician, composer and teacher from London who writes for various ensembles. He is joined by John Turville on piano, Andy Hamill on bass and Tom Hooper on drums.
The Julian Costello Quartet has recently released their third album, ‘And All The Birds Were Set Free’ on the acclaimed label 33 Jazz Records.
“The four musicians all have strong and distinctive individual voices, but the band sound they make together is warm, playful, intimate, intricate, intense and most importantly not boring!’’ Dave Jones Jazz Journal.
Julian Costello Jazz Quartet
The Julian Costello Quartet plays contemporary music that incorporates a range of different grooves, moods and colours and its textures are both tuneful and melodic. Some of the tunes are really structured and scored while others are more free-flowing and left to chance. Playing tenor and soprano saxophones Julian sees the group as one that is left to improvise and jam and see what happens.
