About the show
Singer, harpist and composer Rachel Newton draws on poems and ballads that are hundreds of years old, working them into her contemporary style to create a rich sound that is ambitious, original and unique. Previously awarded Musician of the Year at both the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award and the Scots Trad Music Award, Rachel has had two of her solo albums shortlisted in the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award. She also has a Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland for Best Use of Music and Sound.
A skilled collaborator, Rachel is a member of The Furrow Collective, The Lost Words: Spell Songs and duo projects Heal & Harrow with fiddler Lauren MacColl and Anna Bhàn with her cousin Mairearad Green. She has worked across various platforms including theatre and storytelling.

Audiences can look forward to a stunning live vocal accompanied by acoustic and electro harps to create a memorable and fresh sound which will mesmerize fans old and new. Rachel said: “This album was a very personal and intimate project for me, and I can’t wait to tour it and share this music with my fans live. I’m honoured to be playing Bridport Arts Centre for the first time and to let the audience hear what I’ve been working on. I can’t wait to see them all there!” Rachel’s grandparents' house, where she spent all her school holidays from Edinburgh as a child and the characters who passed through it over the years have had a profound impact on her as a person and a musician. Always striving to achieve something different with each release, this solo album simply features her voice and acoustic and electro harps, with no guest musicians.
