Lester Simpson is an English folk singer, songwriter and local radio presenter. In the early 1990s, he helped to form the internationally acclaimed acappella folk vocal trio Coope Boyes & Simpson.
The stories of Passchendaele and Ypres in Flanders have inspired many of his most significant songs.
Standing In Line was originally commissioned by Peace Concerts Passendale and has subsequently toured in Belgium and widely in the UK, especially at Remembrance time. It is based on the experience of Lester’s great uncle, Albert Scrimshaw who was killed in 1917 at the battle of Passendale.
Lester's work in film and theatre includes a period with the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Barbican Theatre in London. His songs have won national awards and been used for the soundtracks of the Channel 4 documentary, 'The Underground War' and Carlton Television's 'Shot at Dawn'.
A member of the internationally-acclaimed acappella trio Coope, Boyes and Simpson, Lester also works as a solo performer and is an award-winning songwriter.
