Bryony Dunn & The Forest create music inspired by the earth and shaped like a river, babbling over rocky friendships, cascading into pools of love, and eddying at the anxieties of modern life. Born in the wilds of the Surrey Hills—where sisters Bryony and Gina and lead guitarist Jake grew up exploring Leith Hill and drummer Emma studied in Guildford—their sound pulls from childhoods spent building tree forts and swimming in local rivers. “Alt folk with hard edges, or indie rock with a soft centre.” Their debut EP, Burning Fields (August 30), was recorded in a converted chapel StudiOwz with engineer Owain (Billie Marten, The Heavy Heavy), using vintage analogue equipment to craft a warm, timeless feel. The result is a collection of songs that sit comfortably alongside Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours and Wolf Alice’s Blue Weekend. Sisters Bryony and Gina Dunn are the vocal heart of the band, joined by childhood friend Jake Andrews on ripping lead guitar, viral TikTok musician Emma Taylor on drums, and bassist Cat Lawler. Their roots run deep in the Surrey Hills—Bryony, Gina, and Jake grew up just a short walk across Leith Hill from each other, spending their days building tree forts and swimming in local rivers, while Emma studied in Guildford and now resides in Farnham.
