Hailed as the “future of jazz” by Jazz FM, Harry Baker and his trio return to WAF with their unique blend of jazz favourites, folk melodies and original compositions.
Led by star pianist and audience favourite Harry Baker, the trio also features Oren McLoughlin (drums) and Freddie Jensen (double bass), both leading lights on the London jazz scene. Under Harry's leadership, the trio puts their unique stamp on a diverse collection of music, from classic favourites of the American Songbook, to folk melodies and original compositions by the band.
In a special collaboration uniquely devised for WAF, the trio will join forces with the Festival String Quartet, as well as performing some numbers with the electric violin of Athena Octavia, leader of the Quartet.
Long-time followers of WAF will remember that the Harry Baker Trio headlined our first Festival Jazz Night back in 2022, delighting a sell-out audience in Chagford's Jubilee Hall with their smooth groove. We're thrilled to welcome them back to the festival this year!
And back by popular demand, the evening will open with an a cappella set from the lower voices of Corvus Consort, humorously dubbed the "WAFter Eights" after their popular appearances at our last two jazz nights.

Harry Baker Trio

Harry Baker Trio is a musically innovative and conceptually ambitious new ensemble, drawing from jazz, folk and classical traditions. Inspired by the vitality and daring of modern jazz trailblazers such as Dinosaur and Enemy, the trio’s sound is quirky and energising: lyrical melodies and rhythmic exploration mix with searching improvisation, resulting in truly collaborative music-making.
