Imelda makes a triumphant return to Canterbury Festival this autumn with Raised on Songs & Stories, a unique intimate evening featuring new stripped back versions of her wide discography and favourite songs, integrated with her famed poetry and storytelling.
Born and raised in The Liberties area of Dublin, her breakthrough album Love Tattoo remains the best-selling album of all time by a homegrown female artist in Ireland, whilst most recent album 11 Past the Hour marks her 4th No. 1 album in Ireland and 4th Top 10 in the UK.
Blending rockabilly, jazz, rock and blues, Imelda has toured across the world and performed with legends including Jeff Beck, Lou Reed, Bono, Noel Gallagher, Jeff Goldblum and Ronnie Wood.
We are thrilled to welcome her back and invite you to join us for a special night of music, art, connection and creativity.
Sponsored by Paul Roberts.
Imelda May
One of Ireland's most celebrated female artists, Imelda May takes you on a twistin' ride influenced by the likes of Wanda Jackson, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent, but all delivered with Imelda's own unique voice and lyrics. Her stompin' anthems 'Johnny Got A Boom Boom', 'Psycho' and 'Inside Out' all sounded like 1950s classics. However, the modern queen of Rockabilly has since broadened her sound, now taking in elements of blues, rock, soul, gospel and jazz.
