Hollie McNish is the author of Sunday Times bestsellers, Slug and Lobster, the Ted Hughes Award-winning Nobody Told Me, and now her brand-new book, Virgin. In this highly anticipated collection, Hollie McNish unpicks the role this word has played in her own life, as well as others, with her trademark mix of humour, fury and compassion.
She is joined by World Poetry Slam Champion Harry Baker, a poet and a maths graduate who writes about important stuff like hope, dinosaurs and German falafel-spoons. His work has been shared on TED.com and viewed by millions online but is even better in person. His latest collection Wonderful came out in May 2024 alongside a 40-date sellout UK and Ireland tour of the same name, and he recently headlined the Poet’s Revival at the Royal Albert Hall.
Hollie McNish
Spoken word poet who by early 2014 had released two poetry albums, Touch and Push Kick, both to critical acclaim - with the latter prized for contributions to maternal research by the University of London. At a time when the live entertainment industry is saturated with acts that are formulaic and predictable, internationally acclaimed poet and spoken word artist Hollie McNish is a breath of fresh air. Reciting words of love, politics, race, breasts and all that comes in between, Hollie’s poems captivate and move audiences to feel something that is sorely lacking in the industry today. Coming 1st in the UK Slam Poetry Finals and 3rd in the World Poetry Slam Finals, Hollie broke into the mainstream via the Internet – two of her videos ‘Mathematics’ and ‘Embarrassed’ have gone viral on YouTube, reaching over one million views in just over a week. She has received high praise both online and in print, garnering accolades including ‘Internet Sensation’ (Best Daily) and ‘Chick of the Week’ (MTV). Harry Baker
World Poetry Slam Champion Harry Baker has written and performed four 5-star-reviewed solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as winning Best Spoken Word Show. He has performed all around the world as well as being viewed online millions of times, and is currently touring the UK with his latest show. He was also appeared on TV and toured the UK extensively as part of Comedy-Rap-Jazz-Duo Harry and Chris.
