Join naturalist Ed Drewitt for an evening guided walk of around an hour and a half, followed by a drink and nibbles back at the Barn. The minimum recommended age for this Bat Walk is 12 years.
Dusk in late summer is a great time to look for bats such as pipistrelles feeding along local pathways and in the nature reserve. Ed will provide plenty of information on the walk, and will use a bat detector to show you how we can 'hear' the bats echo-locating. We will also be listening out for birds in the dusk chorus, and the hoot of a tawny owl as sunset approaches.
Ed Drewitt is a freelance naturalist based in the Forest of Dean, who for over 20 years has been showing people across the West the flora and fauna around them, and helping them spot and identify different species.
We will return to the Barn around 9.30pm. A drink from the bar and nibbles are included in the ticket price. The drink is your choice of a small glass of wine, beer or cider, or a juice carton, tea or coffee. Alcoholic drinks are strictly for over 18s only. While you are enjoying drinks there is further opportunity to ask Ed any further questions you have about local bats and birds.
Booking is essential and numbers are limited. Tickets cost £20 from Ticketsource or the Barn website. Please inform of any dietary requirements at the time of booking. Free parking on site.
