John Cleese

'And now for something completely different!' Weston-super-Mare's most famous son is probably best known for his incarnation as the Torquay hotelier Basil Fawlty, but his career goes right back to post-satire boom Britain of the mid-'60s and BBC Light Programme's 'I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Again', which Cleese co-wrote and starred in alongside Tom Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, David Hatch and Jo Kendall. Subtitled 'a new kind of laughing' this pioneering show was a post-Goon precursor of alternative comedy. By way of ITV's 'At Last! The 1948 Show', he co-founded the groundbreaking 'Monty Python's Flying Circus' with Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, Graham Chapman and Carol Cleveland. Cleese has appeared in many legendary TV sketches including the Ministry of Silly Walks and the class system skit with Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett ('I know my place'). Alongside Fawlty and several full length feature films, Cleese has also found time to work on management training videos and a number of books. Catch him if you can, but whatever you do, don't mention the dead parrot!
