Apewards from Marburg deliver a full-on dose of heavy fuzz rock. Their new album LIMINAL CHOICES (Tonzonen Records, May 2025) once again demonstrates what this power trio is all about: crushing riffs, catchy melodies, and live energy that hits you right in the neck.
Musically, Apewards feel most at home between the genres. The drums dart between driving soul grooves and heavy doom passages, always bursting with the playfulness of a Keith Moon. The bass lays down a massive foundation with the punch of Rage Against the Machine or at other times with the deep, pulsing groove reminiscent of King Buffalo. The guitar fires on all cylinders from thick riffs, delicate blues licks, to psychedelic escapades. At the center of Apewards’ sound is Nico Gehle’s unmistakable voice, which is raw, powerful, and full of soul.
This trio brings a tight, focused live show. It’s not some loose stoner jam. It’s a precisely delivered gut punch. If you're into Audioslave, All Them Witches, or Greenleaf, you’ll feel right at home here.
