Directors: Stanley Donen, Gene Kelly. Starring: Gene Kelly, Debby Reynolds, Donald O’Connor, Jean Hagen, Cyd Charisse
Originating from a plan to make use of MGM’s large back catalogue of songs from the twenties, a simple story of two silent film stars trying to navigate the challenges of adapting to the new era of sound in cinema emerged as one of the most successful musicals ever made. This affectionate celebration of Hollywood, seen through a vibrant and satirical lens, has been delighting audiences worldwide for over seventy years; its humour, energy and joi de vivre are irresistible.
Step behind the scenes and discover the madness, mayhem, and magic of making movies with this sharp, satirical comedy that turns the camera on the filmmakers themselves. This is part of three autumn screenings – each screening will be introduced, and you’re invited to join us beforehand for cheese & wine (included in your ticket). The other two films in our series: A Cock & Bull Story (Thurs 18 Sept) and Living in Oblivion (Thurs 2 Oct).
Please note, we will be serving the wine & cheese in our Burrow Café in the main theatre building from 7pm before the film screening at 7.30pm.
